CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Aransas Pass City Council voted to to hire Mary Juarez as its interim city manager during a specially called meeting Wednesday night.

Other items on the agenda included accepting the resignation of city attorney Thomas Gwosdz and appoint former Nueces County District Attorney Carlos Valdez as Aransas Pass' interim city attorney.

Raised voices could be heard from behind closed doors as mayor Ram Gomez and city council members Randy Haskins, Jason Knight and Carrie Scruggs went into executive session to discuss the items. Councilman Joe Dominguez was not present. Juarez and Valdez also were included in the meeting.

When they returned to chambers, the votes to accept Gwosdz's resignation failed, leaving no reason to replace him with Valdez.

The fourth item was related to accepting city manager Gary Edwards' departure date after he announced his resignation Oct. 8, telling 3NEWS he is moving back to Missouri to spend more time with family. His last day is Oct. 28.

This is a developing story. 3NEWS will provide updates as they become available.
