CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A blood trail heading away from Downtown helped Corpus Christi Police Department officers track down the man accused of fatally stabbing Anthony Gomez early Sunday morning, according to the probable cause report filed related to his arrest.
Officers said a witness told them said they saw a man, later identified as Ruben Castro, yank the driver's side door open of the vehicle Gomez was in and begin to attack him. The witness said Castro pulled Gomez out of the car and continued attacking him in the street. He then fled.
Officers said they were told Castro was moving away from the water, north of Mesquite Street. They continued following the blood droplets up the stairs near the Corpus Christi Caller-Times building until they found Castro near Buffalo Street and Artesian Street in Uptown Corpus Christi..
He also was found with a knife on him and was arrested for murder.
He had a large cut to his right biceps and a small cut on the back of his head. He was taken to CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital-Shoreline for treatment.
