CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Editor's note: This story has been updated to accurately reflect the total bond amount.
The Banquete community is coming up on their Bond 2024 election, with the biggest item on that list being a new junior high school.
The $48.4 million bond will bring a slew of new upgrades to the Banquete ISD as their needs continue to grow. Administrators 3NEWS spoke with said that if that bond passes, it will be an investment toward students' futures.
Banquete ISD Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations Adrian Pena said if the bond passes, the plan is simple.
"Demolish the old elementary and the old intermediate, and place the junior high in that area," Pena said.
He said the current junior high has stood the test of time.
"The junior high, that's the oldest building we have in the district," Pena said.
Another top item on the bond package is the expansion and renovation of the high school career and technical education center. Pena said outfitting those facilities will benefit students in the long run.
"Students gain EKG and phlebotomy in two different semesters and then they have two other programs as well," he said.
Banquete resident Andrew Elizondo said that having a new junior high will help bolster the community as a whole.
"Our community is growing and our schools are pretty small right now," Elizondo said.
He said investing in those spaces can change the way a child goes about learning.
"And I guess the whole facility in general will give a better atmosphere for the kids," he said.
