CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — After the tragic death of a four-month-old infant who died while in the care of her father, the Coastal Bend community is stepping up to help the family of Ailani Castro.

A BBQ benefit was held Saturday at Los Laguneros Bar to raise money for funeral expenses.

The event was organized by several people, including Pete Treviño, who has been known to help families in times of need.

One of the organizers said an event like this shows community strength during a tragedy.

"You wanna reach out and always help out people that are in need and today with this situation and tragic event I mean it feels really good to help out. A lot of people came together and we want to say thank you for the donations and again all proceeds are for the family and we're very grateful," said owner of Los Laguneros Bar Jacob Sanchez.

Ailani's father, Juan Castro, was arrested for her death.

He remains in Nueces County Jail without bond.
