BISHOP, Texas — The City of Bishop and Bishop Police Department released a number that the community can use to receive text alerts.
The number can be used to report issues, upload photos, ask questions or find information at any time of day via text, using the new 'TextMyGov' program.
To get started text "hi" to (361) 459-7499.
If you'd like to receive text alerts, text the word 'BISHOP' to 918-96.
"So it's a two-part program," Bishop Chief of Police Edward F. Day said. "So you have the opt in for the text alerts and that's basically a one-way alert coming from the police department or the city. You also have an option through a phone number through TextMyGov, where you can send in information. You can take pictures of potholes, you can take pictures of down signs, you can ask questions about the city's services and actually get those resources 24/7."
The Bishop Police Department said this program is not for reporting emergencies or requesting the police, fire department or EMS.
BPD has 24/7 non-emergency dispatch that can be reached at 361-584-2443 or by dialing 9-1-1 for emergencies.
