CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — It’s time again for the Boots or Badges Blood Drive!
Ashley Ramirez with the Coastal Bend Blood Center joined us to talk about the dire need for Type-O during the summer months.
"Every summer we see this," said Ramirez. "It's extremely stressful--if someone is in need of a huge amount of blood supply and we can't service them, you know it's our total worst nightmare, you know---our worst fear."
The only way the blood center can ensure that that does not happen is if the community comes out to donate life to those in need. That's where the annual Boots or Badges Blood Drive comes in.
You can help the community by attending one of several blood drives hosted by different public safety agencies. Once you donate, you can cast your vote: Boots-- firemen and women; or badges-- police and sheriff's deputies.
The battle between local first responders will end on Saturday, July 27. Coastal Bend fire, police, sheriff, public safety, border patrol and other first responders will host blood drives during the last two weeks of July. All blood donors who participate will have the option to credit their donation towards Team Boots or Team Badges.
The winner will help increase the blood bank's donation levels while also engaging in a little friendly competition that could save lives.
You can find a schedule for where to donate at the link here: July 14th - 27th Blood Drives - Coastal Bend Blood Center
