The six-week summer camp all lead up to Wednesday's robot race and bridge breaking battle competitions!

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Tensions were high Wednesday morning as middle schoolers in Del Mar College's TexPREP summer camp put their STEM knowledge to the test with robot races and bridge breaking battles!

The six-week summer camp and is geared towards potential first-generation college students interested in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. During the camp, students get to learn about STEM based careers and even speak with career representatives.

The summer camp all lead up to Wednesday's fierce but friendly competition.

"So we got some straw bridges put together with hot glue, that are going to get broken, and ratios tested for efficiency, weight to break," TexPREP Co-Director James Schollenberger said. "We have the robot races that will be timed through a simple course. We have a big architectural display from our second year students, just a big celebration of everything they've worked hard on in the last six weeks."

Besides problem solving, Schollenberger said the skills students learn will help them be ready in any field they choose!
