Carroll High School students lend a hand to help National Marrow Donor Program

The school held a Swab Kit Prep Party, choosing the group formerly known as Be The Match as its National Service Project for 2024.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Mary Carroll High School students teamed up with the National Marrow Donor Program for their first ever Swab Kit Prep Party.

You may recognize the organization by its old name – Be The Match.

Although the name has changed, its mission remains the same: to find cures and save lives.

The high school picked helping NMDP as its national service project this year, with Tigers gathering Thursday to help give hope to blood-cancer patients looking for their match.

"They've actually all together put together over 2000 swab kits for us, ‘cause these swab kits do not already come labeled, so they label them for us," said NMDP account manager Leticia Mondragon. "This is how someone can become a part of someone's cure for cancer."

Not only do those who use the swab kits have a chance to save a life in our community, Mondragon said the reach to match extends to the entire world.
