CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Corpus Christi Independent School District Police Department has been hosting a special appreciation event for students who aspire to be like them one day since 2014.
This year marked the event's 10-year anniversary, and on Friday, those student safety patrol officers were recognized with a special trip to In The Game Funtrackers.
The annual event recognizes the hard work and effort the student officers do on a daily basis throughout the school year to help keep themselves and their fellow students safe.
Chief of Police for CCISD Kirby Warnke said it's important for them to have this experience with the patrollers, so the students know that they are not going unnoticed for their work.
"It's real important for a lot of reasons," Warnke said. "They give to us, and we want to give back to them. Just show them that we really appreciate what they do for CCISD."
Warnke said that from having this type of program present, they are able to send a message to students in a non-traditional setting.
