CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — For ten years now CITGO's Caring for our Coast program has been helping to conserve and keep beaches and natural habitats in our area.
Every year volunteers from CITGO come together to help organizations like Friends of Padre.
They don't just help hands-on but also financially.
Friday, the beach clean up organization was gifted a $15,000 grant.
"We have 35 to 45 volunteers every year. It's one thing for people to give you money but to back it up with volunteers it's really special and the $15,000 will go a long way with our mission of cleaning up the Big Shell area at the National Seashore," said Friends of Padre Vice President Tyler Thorsen.
CITGO's initiative started in 2014 as a yearlong series of projects focused on coastal conservation and restoration, in remembrance of the impact of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
