CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — While Tropical Storm Alberto has passed, some of it's impacts can still be seen throughout the Coastal Bend in the form of debris.
Assistant Director of Corpus Christi Parks and Recreation Sergio Gonzalez said his team has found various forms of debris along access roads and area beaches.
"Pieces of logs, wood and nails," Gonzalez said. "Every now and then some shoes that might have drifted in."
Gonzalez said he and his team removed 45 tons of debris on Friday alone. However, he warns those that head to the beach to be mindful of what may not visible to the naked eye.
"We don't know what's underneath the sand," he said. "We haven't been able to get out there as of yet."
Megan Quilici and her family came from San Antonio to soak in the sun at the beach. She said that even though they couldn't wait to make the trip, safety is still top of mind.
"The family of four is here from San Antonio we had a trip here to Whitecap Beach planned for many months and we just wanted a nice getaway," Quilici said.
Gonzalez said that cleanup efforts could last well into the weekend.
"We are looking at Saturday, Sunday, getting it all cleaned out, at least the best portion that we can," he said.
