CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coastal Bend Blood Center is feeling the effects of the combined Independence Day holiday, Hurricane Beryl preparation, and heavy blood use. The center made the announcement on Tuesday, there was less than a day's supply of Type-O blood. During the summer months, the Coastal Bend Blood Center holds more blood donation events. The events help balance the drop in donors.
Blood needs have Types O+, O-, and A- in a critically low status. B is listed as minimal while A+, AB+, AB-,B+ are at optimal level. The website states "In order to provide a safe and adequate blood supply for the Coastal Bend, more than 150 people must register to give blood each day."
There are Basic Qualifications needed to donate blood in addition to presenting a photo ID at the time of donation.
