Coastal Bend Heart Walk 2024 kicks off

It's back! Mark you calendars!

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Heart disease impacts over 120 million Americans and claims over 800,000 lives each year. In Nueces County alone, over 85,000 adults have been told by a doctor they have high blood pressure.

That's where the American Heart Association in the Coastal Bend comes into the picture.

The 2024 Coastal Bend Heart Walk kicked off on Thursday! This year, the walk is focusing specifically on hypertension (high blood pressure) and CPR.

Heart survivor Jim Sedwick calls himself a "lucky guy" and says because of the diagnostic procedures this association has he was able to avoid having a heart attack.

"The heart association is the leading force in developing many of these diagnostic techniques and encouraging people to have check-ups and do the right thing, so that these problems can be discovered before its too late," Sedwick said.

He also advises everyone to get check-ups, do what your doctors say and take care of yourself.

The Heart Walk officially takes place on at 8 a.m. Saturday, October 5 at Whataburger Field.
