Corpus Christi City Council holds final RTA building meeting, looks forward to its upgraded chambers

The new-look council chambers debut on March 26.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi city council members wrapped up their last meeting at the Regional Transportation Authority building Tuesday.

The nearly $2.5 million renovations forced the council to move their meetings temporarily to the RTA building for seven months.

"In September of 2023, you may recall the city embarked on an extensive remodeling project of our city chambers across the street," City Manager Peter Zanoni said. "The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority was gracious enough to allow the City to utilize this boardroom that we are in today to contact our meetings and other business."

The upgrades to the council chambers include 50 additional permanent seats, advanced technology and new ADA accommodations.

"The chambers is a boardroom for this council, but more so a community room where our residents get a chance to see us conduct business for the city," Zanoni said. "It really is their room and they'll see next week that the remodel was really for their benefit not so much for us [council]."

Zanoni said the council is excited to host their first meeting at the new council chambers on March 26.
