CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The city of Corpus Christi is set to receive a competitive state grant worth $1.3M in funding for critical repairs needed at NAS-Corpus Christi and CCAD, officials announced on Tuesday.
Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi was awarded a large bulk of the funds--$988,567-- to replace a wastewater lift station in need of serious repairs.
The upgrade will increase the facility's overall capacity for wastewater, minimize the risk of wastewater contamination in local water sources, and ensure better operation in the event of power outages. The city will match $269,609 in contributing costs for the project.
Corpus Christi Army Depot will also receive $330,000 in grant funding and an additional $39,600 from the city to replace more than 15 Condensate Return Stations. The upgrades will reportedly reduce the Army's water supply costs, including wastewater treatment, chemicals, heating, and softener salt.
The city will match a total of $309,209 for the cost of both projects. The money will cover project management and grant administration services.
The grant comes from the Texas Military Preparedness Commission's Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant program. A release from the city said TMPC members and the Governor's staff score and rank proposals against other projects submitted from across the state.
City Council applied for the award back in September.
