CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —
A man is dead after an argument with an off-duty CCISD officer escalated into shots being fired next to the Walmart on Greenwood Drive.
According to police, the shooting happened after an altercation where the off-duty CCISD officer approached the man who he suspected of shoplifting, in his vehicle. The man drove off, dragging the off-duty officer, who then fired his gun multiple times.
The man was reported dead at the scene. CCPD has yet to release the names of the man and the off-duty CCISD officer as of Sunday evening.
CCPD will be conducting a thorough investigation said CCPD Deputy Chief of the Criminal Investigation Division Billy Breedlove. He also spoke to the gravity of the situation.
"Any time an officer uses deadly conduct, it's a very serious situation. We make sure that we conduct a thorough and complete investigation. When we are done we will turn all the information over to the District Attorney's Office. This is something that doesn't happen very often but when it does we make sure that we gather all sides of the story, all physical evidence," said Breedlove.
This is an ongoing investigation, stay with 3NEWS for the updates.
