Nueces County Medical Examiner identifies man shot by a police officer at local shelter

CCPD has not yet identified the officer who killed Martinez.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Nueces County Medical Examiner identified the man shot by a Corpus Christi Police Department officer last Friday outside the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission near I-37 as 44-year-old Alfred Martinez.

However, Corpus Christi Police Department officials have not identified the officer involved.

The shooting happened just before 6 p.m. at the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission on Nueces Bay Boulevard.

CCPD Michael Markle confirmed to 3NEWS that night that police had arrived to serve a felony warrant to Martinez, who was wanted for continued sexual assault of a child.

Markle said Martinez then put up a fight, which led to a struggle over a gun in his hand.

This is the second deadly Corpus Christi police shooting where department officials have yet to identify the officers involved.

The last one was in October 2023, where 17-year-old RJ Fuentes reportedly was shot and killed by police outside of a party on Masterson Street near Kostoryz Road and Saratoga Boulevard.

3NEWS will continue checking with police about these shootings and we will keep you updated.
