CC Water chief addresses Stage 2 restrictions, desal plants

Stage 2 water restrictions will not be lifted until Corpus Christi's combined lake levels go above 40 percent, which they haven't been since July 2023.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Both the city manager and Corpus Christi Water officials addressed our recently implemented Stage 2 water restrictions at Tuesdays city council meeting.

Understanding just how far those water restrictions go was just one of the items addressed by CCW chief operating officer Drew Molly.

He also shared some information with city council members on the two planned desalination plants that are in the works for Corpus Christi.

Molly reminded the council that Stage 2 water restrictions are really about what happens outside of a home or business.

It is essentially a call to cut back on outside water irrigation meaning watering with a sprinkler is only allowed once every other week and on certain days.

He also made the point that this applies not only for residential but also for industrial and commercial use.

Remember, Stage 2 will not be lifted until our combined lake levels go above 40 percent.

That's a place they haven't been since July of last year.

The following Stage 2 Water Restrictions are now in effect:

  • Outdoor watering with irrigation or sprinklers is permitted once every other week on residential trash pickup day before 10:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m.
  • Outdoor watering in the Calallen area will be based on the last digit of the customer's address.
  • City crews will continue to prioritize responding to water system repairs and leaks.
  • The City will continue ongoing educational outreach on restriction requirements and water level awareness.
  • Citations will be issued for failure to follow Stage 2 water restrictions after warnings have been given. The citation could result in fines of up to $500 per violation per day. Enforcement includes nights and weekends.

For those who are still wondering when they are allowed to do outdoor watering, there are maps and schedules online at cctexas.com.

A violation could cost you up to $500.
