CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 71-year-old Sinton man died Tuesday after hitting the back of a trailer stopped on the shoulder of an exit ramp in the Sinton area.
Authorities with DPS said Ronald Morgenroth suffered significant injuries in the crash before being pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash happened on the US 77 southbound exit ramp near mile marker 644 just outside of city at around 4:20 p.m., according to DPS.
Troopers said a 50-year-old man from Edinburg was towing a Wabash Trailer on his Kenworth T680 when he stopped on the shoulder.
That's when Morgenroth's vehicle, a Tahoe, drove onto the improved shoulder and hit the rear of the stopped trailer. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other man was not injured in the crash.
DPS says the incident remains under investigation by Troopers from the Sinton Highway Patrol Office.
