Monday marks deadline for desal project proposals

City leaders plan to announce their decision on Oct. 8.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Monday was the deadline for the three companies vying for the job of building our city's Inner Harbor Desalination Plant to submit their proposals for the project.

Now, the clock is ticking for City leaders to decide whose hands the $757 million project will fall into as they plan to announce their decision on Oct. 8.

With such stiff competition 3NEWS asked Corpus Christi Water COO Drew Molly how they'll be making their evaluations.

"So qualifications are the main driver, but there is also some cost components that go into the evaluation," Molly said. "These are very well-versed companies and frankly, it's exciting because we are getting the best companies that want to compete here in Corpus Christi for this project."

The City is also hoping to get their discharge permit for the project from the TCEQ as soon as possible.
