CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Officials with the Nueces County Coastal Parks Board approved a final design for the new Bob Hall Pier during a special meeting Monday on Padre Island.
The design plans will now head to Nueces County Commissioners so construction bids on the project can be sent out.
Officials with the parks board say it's important the new pier is functional for both fishermen and visitors, and that it can withstand hurricane season here in the Coastal Bend.
"The design of this pier is definitely more robust, we believe, than the last pier," Board Member for the Nueces County Coastal Parks Cody Bates said. "There's been some design elements that have been included that will help it resist hurricanes going forward... higher storm surgers, bigger more battering waves."
Money for the new pier will come from grants, insurance pay outs and county funds.
Officials are looking to start construction on the new pier as early as this summer with the goal to be fully complete within the next three years.
