CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — High school students will only thrive with real workforce training and experience.
They can find that through paid internships with Coastal Bend businesses. In this week's Direction to Success, Nick Alvarado spoke with First Edition about why students should get curious about the different ways they can pursue their post-secondary goals.
"The trend of the traditional post-secondary college track is changing. You know, now we're going to career technology, military, straight into the workforce."
He says the goal of the Emerging Professionals Internship Program is a multifaceted one.
"It's twofold- obviously we want to prepare them to enter the workforce- locally, obviously we want to try to keep our talent local." said Alvarado. "But we also we want to give them the essential skills necessary to maintain their career development for years to come."
As for how students can connect with the EPIP program, Alvarado says it's as simple as reaching out to a school counselor. Several EPIP counselors are currently working with students throughout Coastal Bend campuses. Student who may not have access to an in-school EPIP advisor can also connect via the EPIP website.
Alvarado says that students have many options when it comes to post-secondary programs and looking toward the future. The 'traditional path' is not necessarily traditional anymore.
