CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As the nights start getting darker quicker, drivers are encouraged to be vigilant as deer season will soon begin.
"Just be conscience of your surroundings, just be conscience of if there's a car behind you," Captain Game Warden Ben Baker with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said.
Due to our area, Baker said that deer accidents are possible and that drivers should be vigilant.
He said that there's a law he really wants to drive home.
"It is illegal to take any animal from a public roadway," Baker said.
This means that drivers who are having second ideas after a crash should think again.
"Folks will get in an accident with a deer and try to take part of that deer, that is illegal," he said.
Those who hunt are familiar with the Muy Grande. The shop offers hunters everything they need to prepare for the upcoming season.
Store owner Kenneth Sharber said that drivers should stress caution.
"You hit a deer and it'll total the car," he said.
Sharber said that for those who do hunt, there's a lot to look forward to this deer hunting season.
"Its really exciting when you get to hear the bonding stories that happen in a deer blind. The grandparents, the moms, the dads and the families," he said.
Baker said that if someone is in a deer accident they should call their local sheriff's department, nonemergency police number or the Texas Parks and Wildlife office. That number is (361) 289-5566.
