Child, man pulled from water in drowning-related incident near mile marker 215

The child was taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital in good condition. The man's condition is unknown at this time.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A man in his late 50s and a 10-year-old child were pulled from the water near mile marker 215 around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Emergency responders say the child was taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital in good condition. The man's condition is unknown at this time.

Assistant Chief Kenneth Erben with CCFD told 3NEWS that lifeguards were doing training exercises out at the beach when they noticed a child floating out in the water near the third sand bar, a good distance away from the shore.

The lifeguards went out to meet the child in the water when they noticed the man floating in the water in need of rescue. CCFD and the lifeguards attempted to perform CPR on the man before he was transported to a local hospital.

At this time, the relationship between the child and the man is not known. CCFD said it is unclear if there was another guardian present for the child when taken to the hospital for observation.

Nueces County ESD 2 was also on scene to assist in the rescue. Chief Wes Beseda said that the child was taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital in good spirits and good health.
