CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Del Mar College has a record-breaking amount of students in their dual enrollment program.
This year alone, almost 3,000 area high school students have enrolled in the program, that's a 7.2 percent increase from last fall!
If you've never heard of it, the program helps high school students earn both high school and college credits at the same time, all while enhancing opportunities for their future careers.
"As soon as the students are done in high school they can go and seek a career in welding, in healthcare, programs such as nursing aid, phlebotomy, EKG; and there's also business management, industrial tech programs such as instrumentation, process technology. So, there's a ton of stuff in these two categories, again, in the academic and the career, technical education," DMC Associate VP for Continuing Education Dr. Leonard Rivera said.
One of the best parts for high school students is that tuition for this program comes at no cost! This would also be a huge help if you're able to get as many transferrable credits under your belt as possible before graduation.
Rivera told 3NEWS the no-cost incentive is due to the state picking up the tab after House Bill 8 was passed last year providing financial aid for students to enroll in dual credit.
