CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Editor's note: Sheriff Oscar Rivera corrected the alleged shooter's age in a Facebook post Tuesday. He is 24.
The San Patricio County Sheriff's Department responded to a shooting in Taft early Monday morning that left one man dead and another taken into custody and facing a murder charge, according to a social media post from Sheriff Oscar Rivera Monday night.
Rivera said deputies responded to the shooting at 2:30 a.m. Monday in the 600 block of Mary Street.
When law enforcement arrived, deputies found 33-year-old Derek Rene Rodriguez of Taft with a single gunshot wound. Rodriguez was transported to Northshore ER and pronounced dead.
Andrew Leal, 24, was taken into custody and charged with murder, Rivera stated. The sheriff announced Tuesday that Leal was placed on a bond for $1 million.
The San Patricio County Sheriff's Department, CSI team, Texas Rangers and Taft Police are investigating this case.
