Annual 'Easter Sunrise Passion Play' looking for volunteers

For over 80 years, Corpus Christi residents have gotten up before dawn on the holiday to go to the Corpus Christi bayfront to watch the Easter Sunrise Passion Play.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —

The first steps are being taken towards the production of a beloved Easter Sunday tradition in our area.

For over 80 years, Corpus Christi residents have gotten up before dawn on the holiday to go to the Corpus Christi bayfront to watch the 'Easter Sunrise Passion Play' at the bayfront.

The play is a depiction of the life of Jesus Christ from birth to resurrection.

Today, the cast and crew gathered at Cole Park for a meet-and-greet rehearsal for this year's production that organizers say they're honored to be a part of.

"It is a privilege and it's all for the glory of god, first of all,” Coordinator for the Easter passion play, Isabel Diaz said. “To be able to see it at the very end when the sun rises, and the angels are coming it's just a beautiful thing."

She adds that it's a team effort to put the production on and they are still looking to fill all kinds of positions.

If you want to be part of the beloved easter tradition, you can find the 'Easter Sunrise Passion Play' on Facebook.
