CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) held a presentation for elderly residents at the Lindale Senior Center Monday morning for Financial Exploitation Awareness Month.
Some of the topics discussed included what to look out for when setting up online accounts, how to review who is listed on your account and realizing the red flags when your money is being abused.
3NEWS caught up with John Lennon with Texas DFPS on the message that was sent today to help protect our seniors.
"We're looking to find where there is inappropriate activity going on, put a stop to it, put protections into place so that funding can be used in the best interest of the person who that funding is intended for," he said.
If you or someone you know feels like they are being exploited you can call 1-800-252-5400, or report it online to txabusehotline.org.
