CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Around 3 p.m. Wednesday, the Corpus Christi Police Department was dispatched to multi-vehicle accident on the State Highway 286 access road and Saratoga that involved seven cars and one city bus.
According to CCPD-Traffic Section Lt. Michael Pena, one car was traveling northbound on SH 286 access road at Saratoga and ran a red light, hitting the city bus that was traveling eastbound on Saratoga. The bus continued eastbound and hit several more cars.
Two people were taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries.
The intersection of Ayers and Saratoga was momentarily shut down as first responders assessed the scene.
Pena wanted to remind the public about the importance of obeying traffic signals.
"I just want to remind everybody that as you're approaching an intersection be cognizant, be aware of what the color of the light is," he said. "If you're coming up to a yellow light, go ahead and slow and come to a stop to prepare for that red light."
