CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Falfurrias Police Chief William Barton was temporarily suspended Monday during the city's regularly scheduled city council meeting.
Barton was suspended for five days with no pay and placed on six-months probation, Falfurrias Mayor Justo Ramirez said Tuesday evening.
He said since the discussion was held during executive session, he is not at liberty to say what led to the suspension and referred 3NEWS to city administrator Martin Saenz.
Phone calls to Saenz shortly before 5 p.m. have not yet been returned.
Two items were on the agenda for executive session during Monday's meeting: One pertaining to a "personnel matter pursuant to Section 551.074, Texas gov't Code, to deliberate the appointment, evaluation, reassignment, duties and/or discipline action concerning" Barton, and another pertaining to police department Sr. Admin. Assistant Andrea Ochoa.
