A 21-year-old motorcyclist is confirmed dead after crashing into another vehicle on the SPID highway. Authorities said that speed played a factor.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — SPID has reopened after a 21-year-old man was confirmed dead following a major crash Friday morning.

The incident took place at around 3 a.m., shutting down portions of SPID at Everhart for several hours.

There was also a minor accident on the access road as police worked to divert traffic from the highway, causing additional complications to traffic on the feeder.

Authorities said the 21-year-old man- who was on a motorcycle- was heading westbound on Hwy. 358 (SPID) when he hit another vehicle and died, with speed playing a factor.

No one was injured in the other vehicle; however, two other cars were involved in the incident. There is no word on how they were involved yet or the extent of the damage they suffered.

Twisted metal and debris were scattered along the busy thoroughfare as police worked the scene and directed traffic.
