CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A woman was arrested on charges of illegal gambling and engaging in organized crime at the Morgan Entertainment Game Room on Thursday.

Rebecca Pelaez, 64 is charged with violating the Nueces County game room ordinance, which is a class A misdemeanor. She's also facing cases of Gambling Promotion, Keeping a Gambling Place, and Possession of a Gambling Device.

CCPD said a tip led them to a months-long investigation that came to a head at the mid-town game room.

Pelaez was arrested for illegal gambling and organized criminal activity, which is a felony punishable by up to two years in jail and a maximum $10,000 fine.

Eight patrons received citations for gambling and were released at the scene. Additional arrests are anticipated as CCPD continues their investigation.

The department found a substantial amount of gambling equipment and over $4,800.00 cash at the game room.

Detectives were assisted on this operation by an agent with the Texas Comptroller’s Office, which monitors coin operated machines. No violations were found

The Corpus Christi Police Department reminds citizens that game rooms which pay out cash rewards are engaging in illegal gambling. Patrons as well as the management of these establishments should expect to face criminal charges.
