CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A Corpus Christi Police Officer has undergone multiple surgeries since being hit by a vehicle while guiding a funeral procession almost a week ago, according to a GoFundMe set up in his name.
Sr. Ofc. Vicente Ortiz was hit by a driver on Kostoryz Road on May 21, and thrown from his motorcycle.
Ortiz is a 15-year veteran of the department, according to the GoFundMe, and still faces a long road to recovery. It also states that he has a wife, who is designated the beneficiary of the account, and two children.
An Aransas Pass Police Department captain also was hit while riding his department-issued motorcycle the day after Ortiz. Alvin Luker also suffered several broken bones in the accident, as well as nerve damage and internal damage.
There currently is no update on his condition.
