CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Friday is Bishop Emeritus Edmond Carmody's 90th birthday!
Students and staff from John Paul II High School—the very campus he helped bring to fruition—wanted to celebrate him with a surprise party.
"I was totally surprised," Carmody said. "I didn't expect anything. We drove up... they told me we were going out to eat and when we came up we saw all of the cars and I thought there was a basketball game going on. Great surprise."
St. John Paul II High School secretary, Cathy Garcia, said the hardest part was keeping it a secret!
"That was the challenging part but we knew that 90 was a big milestone and we were determined to make it happen," Garcia said. "He's got the biggest heart, he loves this community more than anybody and the kids here as you can see the alumni they just showed up in flocks because they love Bishop Carmody."
