UPDATE: Driver identified in fatal crash at Holly Road and Carroll Lane intersection

Jacob Cade Martin was killed on Friday. Police said the accident happened when a black truck failed to stop at a red light, causing both trucks to collide.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office has identified Jacob Cade Martin as the man killed after crashing into another truck, at the intersection of Holly Road and Carroll Lane over the weekend. He was 26.

CCPD Lieutenant Michael Pena said police responded to the accident at 8:54 p.m. Friday.

He said a driver in a black truck was traveling eastbound on Holly Road and a driver in a silver truck was traveling southbound on Carroll Lane when the driver of the black truck failed to stop at the red light. The trucks collided, sending the black truck into the fence of a nearby home and the silver truck into the traffic light.

Pena said the driver of the black truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver in the silver truck was sent to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

He said the scene should be cleared up within a few hours.

"This won't be an all-nighter. We've got to do our process as far as investigating the crash scene but I would say within in a couple of hours it should be cleared up," Pena said.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area if possible.
