CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Organizers and supports of the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Foundation gathered on Thursday, the eve of the annual memorial luncheon honoring the late doctor.
This year the event will be held at the same venue where it all started, the Omni Bayfront.
Dr. Garcia's daughter, Cecilia Akers, explained that the foundation continues her father's mission.
"It's really all about him, my father, and it's about us following in his footsteps," Akers said. "this is why we started a foundation to ensure that what he wanted we're gonna continue doing."
Through fundraisers the foundation helps provide scholarships and assistance to south Texas veterans.
3NEWS will be at the memorial luncheon Friday, taking you inside the sold-out event that celebrates the man whose legacy lives on in our community.
