How the recent rain will effect Beeville's discolored water

Officials told 3NEWS the City is hard at work with the TCEQ trying to neutralize the color while they wait for the lake levels to rise overall again.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — There are high hopes for the recent rainfall to make its way into the City of Beeville's watershed.

Beeville residents have been experiencing yellow tap water as a result of historically-low lake levels.

Officials told 3NEWS when rain does make it into the basin, it washes organics into the water which is what causes the discoloration.

City Manager Jon Benson said that water is tested by the TCEQ 100 times a day to ensure it's safe for consumption. The City is hard at work with the agency trying to neutralize the color while they wait for the lake levels to rise overall again.

"As that occurs we know we will start to see discoloration again, but ultimately that is the solution to the overall issue is getting the lake level at a higher level," Benson said. "But again, that's going to take a significant amount of rain to fill Lake Corpus Christi back up."

The city manager empathizes with residents saying they don't like seeing the discoloration either, but he assures the community the City is doing everything they can to ensure their safety.
