CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Over 300 people showed up at Whataburger Field on Wednesday to participate in the Corpus Christi Hooks' 9/11 stair climb. The event remembers those who lost their lives during the attack on the twin towers 23 years ago.
Stepping into the shoes of 9/11 first responders, participants climbed 110 stories worth of stairs, the same number as there were in the World Trade Center.
United States Coast Guard Captain Jennifer Andrew explained what it felt like to climb those stairs and reflect on the tragedy.
"You understand the sacrifice and how those men and women that went in that day they risk everything to go in there and save lives, and so for me, it's just an honor to be able to remember them in a way and to honor what they had to go through that day," she said.
