CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 36-year-old Corpus Christi man is dead after an accident on Hwy. 359 shut down the roadway for several hours Wednesday morning.
Authorities said the accident took place when 19-year-old Andrew Hinojosa of Alice failed to remain in the northbound lane of the highway while travelling in a red Ford F-250.
That's when Hinojosa hit the 36-year-old, Francisco Costilla, and his 17-year-old passenger, Santos Garcia, according to authorities with DPS. The pair, both from Corpus Christi, were travelling southbound in a Chevrolet Silverado on the same highway.
DPS said the impact resulted in major injuries to both vehicles.
Costilla died of his injuries at the scene of the accident, where he was pronounced dead by Judge Richard De Leon.
Hinojosa and Garcia were transported to Christus Spohn Shoreline and Shoreline and Christus Spohn in Alice, respectively.
An autopsy has been ordered for Costilla and the crash remains under investigation by the San Diego Highway Patrol Office.

DPS confirmed to 3NEWS that one individual is dead following a fatal accident that has shut down Hwy. 359 near County Road 211 early Wednesday morning.
The highway was expected to be closed for some time, according to Sgt. Harold "Rob" Mallory with DPS. It reopened just before 11 a.m., according to highway patrol authorities.
The call for the accident came in to authorities in Jim Wells County at 6:26 a.m. Three people were involved in the two-vehicle accident, which is just south of FM1539.
Mallory said the highway could be up to two hours before it reopens, as DPS crews wait for the fog to clear before they can get a drone up to map and preserve the scene for evidence.
Not much is known about the condition of the other two people involved in the accident at this time.
