Coastal Bend counties see increase in early voting turnout this election season

"We may have five percent of our voters show up during the entire election, so to see over five percent in one day that tells me that more people are interested."

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Just two days into early voting and Coastal Bend counties are seeing a noticeable increase in participation, some telling 3NEWS that residents reached out about casting their ballot weeks ago.

San Patricio County Elections Administrator Pamela Hill said that for her, this time of year gives her a special type of feeling.

"My adrenaline is going, and I can't wait for the results," she said.

Hill said that while she was prepared for the election season, she didn't anticipate how many people would show up for early voting.

"We may have five percent of our voters show up during the entire election, so to see over five percent in one day that tells me that more people are interested in this election," she said.

Odem resident Barbara Lopez was one of many who took advantage of early voting on Monday. She said she witnessed firsthand how busy the administration building was.

"Today I saw them take a picture of a young lady and said she was the one-thousandth voter today," she said.

3NEWS reached out to Aransas, Jim Wells and Brooks counties officials who said they also saw increases in early voter turnout. Some credited the fact to it being a presidential election.

Nueces County also reported a strong turnout for early voting with nearly 10,000 voters in person both Monday and Tuesday.
