Touch-A-Truck to put kids behind the wheel, educate about city services

The event was not only an opportunity for interactive fun, but the first steps in a child's journey to finding their future career.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas —

The Junior League of Corpus Christi hosted their 6th annual 'Touch-A-Truck' event at Whataburger Field today.

Kids were able to get behind the wheel, honk the horn and chat with the drivers of fire trucks, police cars and helicopter pilots.

The event was not only an opportunity for interactive fun, but the first steps in a child's journey to finding their future career.

"One of the greatest things about having so many different vehicles out here is kids can truly learn about different careers they might have never known about," said President of Junior League of Corpus Christi Brittany Sandbach. "We've got the Coast Guard out here, we've got the DPS out here, we've got the city police department and the fire department and so many more."

Junior league officials say that the 90 vehicles out today were the most trucks they have ever had for the event.

The ‘Touch-A-Truck' event also had the highest attendance rate and the most funds raised.
