Judge denies bond reduction for suspects in fatal 2023 shooting

A third suspect in the shooting has agreed to testify against the defendants in exchange of freedom.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Two out of four men accused of shooting and killing a man on Bluebonnet Drive in July of 2023 appeared in court Tuesday afternoon.

Corpus Christi Police responded to the shooting on July 28 2023, there they found a man with a gunshot wound who later died at a hospital.

Shortly after the shooting, police were able to locate four suspects in relation to the shooting.

Tuesday afternoon, two suspects who have been in Nueces County Jail for a year, went before Judge David Stith in the 319th court asking for a bond reduction. They were denied.

A third suspect involved in the shooting has since been sentenced to 30 years in prison, a fourth has agreed to go against the defendants in exchange of freedom.

"Another co-defendant has agreed to testify against this defendant. For those reasons, we believe the defendant is both an extreme flight risk as he's got all the reason in the world to run as well as a danger to community as there is now someone out there in the free world who has agreed to snitch on him," said Jonathan Crocker, Assistant District Attorney for Nueces County.

Both cases will be tried separately, Delagarza's will be sometime in September. As for Cantu, the judge agreed to a speedy trial.

3NEWS will continue to follow both cases through trial.
