'Major flooding' on Kingsville golf course hasn't drained almost a week later

The inaugural Javelina Cheerleading Golf tournament has been rescheduled as a result of major flooding caused by rain showers that first fell in early September.

Pictures of the golf course covered in water were posted to Facebook last Wednesday, showing the 'major flooding' that closed the course for a week.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Kingsville's L.E. Ramey Golf Course remains closed a week after heavy rain first flooded the 18-hole driving range on Sept. 2.

The news comes days after a scheduled fundraising tournament for the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelina cheerleaders was pushed to October from its originally planned Saturday date this past weekend.

As of Monday, the golf course will remain closed due to water still standing in a lot of areas throughout the course, organizers said on Facebook.

The fair way appears to have struggled with similar issues through much of the summer season, as frequent posts updating golfers on their day-to-day status reflect a trend of closures attributed to rain and muddy conditions.

On Aug. 1, the golf course posted that a contractor had finished hydroseeding the fairways and thanked customers for their patience.
