CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As the city assess the damage after the first named tropical storm of hurricane season, here are a few more tips to protect and prepare your home against future major weather events.
- Plant tree's away from your home to keep any damage to a minimum
- Clean your gutters in order to prevent any leftover debris from accumulating and causing damage
- Seal entryways by using caulking around your windows and doors to reduce water from breaching inside
Andres Cardenas with Restoration One in Corpus Christi says ceiling, wall and floor damage are the number one jobs after high water.
"The biggest thing is to mitigate the issue without getting it worse," Cardenas said. "So if you're in the middle of a rain storm and there is a roof leak coming through your dry wall, get a trash can, put some towels up, prevent water going onto your floors, going through your baseboards, same thing with your window."
Cardenas said the most important thing when dealing with a leak following a storm is to get things dry as quickly as possible, that'll help prevent further damage.
