CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas Parks and Wildlife conducted prescribed fires at Mustang Island State Park on Tuesday. The controlled fire treatments are time sensitive and depend on environmental conditions. These treatments are important for maintaining healthy prairie and marsh ecosystems and habitats.
These activities will impact the following areas and require closures of the following areas and features:
- Beach Closure – the beach will temporarily be closed from the pedestrian only area within the park, extending south to the park boundary line near Newport Pass Road.
- Park visitors will still have beach access to the north of the pedestrian area (Fish Pass Jetty side) as well as the Beach Access Road 2 area (North of Fish Pass)
- Beach Access Road 3 – Closed during Fire activity and during times of heavy smoke.
Texas Parks and Wildlife said some smoke may linger for a few days after the burn is complete.
Beach camping is closed for the day.
These areas will be reopened to public use after the burn treatment is complete.
