CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — While the weather is expected to get super chilly over the weekend, officials at the Nueces County Junior Livestock Show said they have plans in place to keep the animals warm.
NCJLS Superintendent Dwayne Truesdale said they have special animal bedding that is easy to install and helps to ensure the animals are safe and comfortable.
"It'll spread out and you'll add water to it and it'll get big and fluffy and then the animal can lay down on it," Truesdale said. "It's bedding, so they can lay down and it keep it warm and they don't have to lay on this hard floor."
And those safety measures have a high head count too.
"Goats, rabbits, chickens, deer and the pigs and we have a heifer show next door. So probably a good 800 I'd say," Truesdale said.
Joe Valenzuela with Skin n Bones BBQ said that nothing is stopping him from serving mouth watering food to residents, not even the weather.
"We've been out here a couple years back there was like a foot and a half icicles off my truck and we stayed out here the whole time," Valenzuela said.
He said that despite the weather at the end of the day, it's all about coming together as a community.
"But tonight it's just setting up having a good time, friends family coming out. This is Texas, it's hot one minute and cold the next," he said.
