CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 17-year-old boy was arrested and taken to the Jim Wells County Jail in Alice Wednesday after county Pct. 5 constable Gerald Arismendez said the teen shot his biological father after a fight.
Arismendez posted the arrest to his Facebook page on Thursday, saying he was called to East Mendoza Avenue in Orange Grove at about 9:43 p.m. after being called for a shooting in the aftermath of a fight between Demetrio Benavidez III and his father.
Arizmendez said he found the man shot twice in the stomach, and the boy and handgun he used to reportedly shoot his father were gone.
The man was medevaced to Corpus Christi and was said to be stable.
Arismendez said he found the boy at a Stripes on South Reynolds Street and took him into custody. However, he did not have a gun on him. He agreed to take Arizmendez to where he had hidden the weapon.
Benavidez III is charged with aggravated assault - family/with a weapon, and is being held on a $200,000 bond.
