CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Padre Island National Seashore is cancelling its sea turtle release Saturday.
The announcement comes after the Gulf-facing beaches were temporarily closed due to the impacts of Tropical Storm Alberto.
One of the closures includes Malaquite Beach, which is where the release was scheduled to take place.
It is unclear at this time when the beach access will reopen.
Here is a list of the national seashore's closed areas, as of Friday morning:
- North Beach
- Malaquite Beach
- Malaquite Campground Boardwalk
- Malaquite Visitor Center Boardwalk
- South Beach
- Yarborough Pass
Padre Island National Seashore posted on social media about significant erosion along the dunes near Malaquite Beach, adding that the Malaquite campground also was damaged.
Crews will clean up the beach access once the tide recedes.
