CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — As expected, the race for mayor of Corpus Christi is a lot closer.
Incumbent mayor Paulette Guajardo leads with 51 percent of the early vote as results began to come in Saturday night, or fewer than 500 votes.
Guajardo earned 47.65 percent of the vote in the general election compared to 34.61 percent for Hunter, a lead of 12,793 votes.
Far fewer people are expected to vote in the runoff election. The runoff had seven days of early voting, and there were 21,542 votes cast early. That's a turnout of 9.84 percent. Turnoff for the general election stood at 43.9 percent after early voting.
Two Corpus Christi City Council districts will also be decided Saturday night -- the races in District 1 and District 4.
