Police exercise near Baldwin and Ayers worries neighbors Thursday afternoon

CCPD officials said there's nothing to worry about, and that notices were sent to businesses in the area saying to expect loud booms.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Several calls have come into the 3NEWS newsroom reporting loud booms in the area near Baldwin and Ayers Street.

The booms reportedly are being heard as far as the Lindale neighborhood, as well.

Corpus Christi Police Department officers tell us there's nothing to worry about -- it was their SWAT Team holding a training in a nearby building.

According to public relations officers, the department is conducting training in a space that is due to be demolished. They said buildings such as these give officers a good opportunity to train in different landscapes.

"In the event that a major incident does occur in the city, we have the proper data to determine that we're using the minimum amount of charges necessary to make entry into a building," said CCPD Lt. Braden Tackett.

Officers said businesses in the area were made aware of the training.

We'll speak with officers about Thursday's training and have more later on in the day.
